Known throughout the world as a beautiful city with a long and illustrious history, London’s landmarks are amongst some of the most breathtaking in the world. From the historic Hampton Court Place to recently-constructed buildings like The Shard – London certainly has it all! Being different, the landmarks are an attraction for the creative types; those who like to sketch, putting their own spin on the buildings. To turn your design in to a permanent reminder, why not let us help you to turn it into something more permanent, with our laser cutting London service?
Here are some of the London landmarks that would be interesting to for you to design and for us to laser cut (thankfully, not to scale!)
- The Shard – With construction completed in 2012 and opened to the public a year later, The Shard is one of the city’s newest skyscrapers. Standing at over 1000 feet the building is the tallest in the UK. Attracting thousands of visitors per week on its ‘view from The Shard’ platform, you get to see the city from almost 800ft up, offering you a full 360 degree view of the city for 40 miles! Its architecture is described as ‘neo-futurism’ - some have said it looks like an alien spacecraft! In truth, it lives up to its name – a glass shard that seems to have fallen from the sky.
- St Paul’s Cathedral – When construction was finally completed on St Paul’s in 1710, few would have doubted it would take another 250 years for a taller building to be constructed in the city! Its intriguing shape and dome roof has attracted many artists over the centuries.
- The London Eye – Opened to the public in March 2000, the London Eye was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel for 6 years – and still holds the title of Europe’s tallest. Sitting on the south side of the Thames, offering vast and panoramic views of the city, not to mention the fact that a giant Ferris wheel stands in the middle of a city, makes The London Eye one of the most-interesting aspects of Central London.
- Big Ben and Houses of Parliament – One of the most recognisable sights in the world and perhaps the most–answered question by people when asked about London landmarks they can name - the clock that houses Big Ben sits by the Palace of Westminster, most commonly known as the Houses of Parliament. After a fire that destroyed much of the original Palace of Westminster in 1834, plans were drawn up to reconstruct the building with a clock tower to dominate the immediate skyline. It has remained a symbol of the city ever since.
